‘Democracy Under Threat’ is an initiative by Dutch non-profit organisations who believe we cannot take democracy for granted. In the last fifteen years, democracy is under pressure and authoritarianism is on the rise. The urgency is clear: we must prevent further backsliding of democracy, and improve democracy both at home and abroad.

In our manifest “Democracy Manifesto – Our Call for Action!” we present 14 key recommendations on how to improve democracy at home and abroad. The manifest is our contribution on behalf of The Netherlands’ civil society to the Dutch input at the Second Summit for Democracy taking place in Spring 2023.

On the 10th of november, we will gather civil servants, activists, politicians and representatives from civil society in The Hague. At the conference, we will discuss how to prevent further backsliding of democracy, and how to improve democracy ‘at home’ as well as in international settings.
